Tour South 2
Marlborough Sounds/ Northern South Island/ Canterbury
Tailor made tours are also available!
If you have a little bit more time to explore the South Island and if you are flying out of Christchurch this Tour will be optional for you. You may want to cut short some walks and have a stop at one of the nice Wineries of the Marlborough Region. Watch the seals, swim with the dolphins or go out on the ocean to do some whale watching.
Drive along the Kaikoura Ranges, meet Christchurch, the town with the most gardens in New Zealand, take a sensational Train ride across the Alps with stunning views and mountain tops.
Making our way from Te Kuiti down to Wellington through the night and catch the first ferry in the morning. Drive along the Queen Charlotte Drive towards Marahau, where the Abel Tasman Track starts. Here we make ourselves at home and relax the rest of the day at the beach and have a good Dinner.
We catch the early water taxi into Anchorage Bay, have a little break and start our way back to the camp. Have lunch at one of the beautiful beaches along the way, stop for a swim, may do some seakajaking at the afternoon or just sit back and relax.
After a good breakfast and making our lunch for the day we get back on the bus and head for Blenheim. Here we decide which Winery we want to look at and after a good Wine we have dinner and look forward to the coming day.
We leave early in the morning and just before Kaikoura we look out for the seals. We stop and make photos from wild animals, who don't even bother to be a main attraction as long as you don't come to close. Then we get back into the bus, have lunch in Kaikoura at the ocean and we may even see some dolphins coming along. In the early afternoon we go out to watch some whales, and who still hasn't enough of the ocean and its seafood comes along to a very good restaurant where we spoil ourselves with excellent seafood dishes.
Having breakfast at the camp with awesome views at the Kaikoura Ranges we head for Christchurch. Here everybody has time for himself and can either go shopping or have a look at the Art Museum, Craft Market or just sit and relax in any of the gardens. You decide after a ride along the hillside towards the Gondola if you want to do some Home meal cooking or go out to a very good "all you can eat for 20$ restaurant".
Today the best Train ride of the world is our way to explore the Alps of New Zealand. There is no other relaxing way to cross over to the Tasman Sea as this particular Train ride. Take some beautiful Pictures along the way and spent most of the time on the viewing platform, because you won't stop saying ooohhh and ahhhhh. After a break in Greymouth, the gateway for many miners during the first pioneers time, we catch the train back to Christchurch. Here, there might even be a Rugby game on, or we just a enjoyable time together during dinner and afterwards we talk about all the impressions we had the last days.
Depending of the time you have to fly out, you might want to go for another look around Christchurch or visit the Antarctic Centre close to the Airport. Otherwise we make our way back to Picton and if the weather is fine enough we go for some skydiving above the Marlborough Sounds.
Leaving Picton early in the morning, having a short look into Te Papa Museum for those who haven't been there before, have some lunch and go back to Te Kuiti.
Having a good sleep in and a rest after those days with full of impressions. From here we take you back to Auckland Airport.
This Tour is very flexible and all you have to provide is some enthusiasm and the possibility to open up for all those beautiful things we are going to let you be part of.
