This tour enables you to experience New Zealand in its truest form. You can go through lime stone caves and see the glow worms or participate in under ground (black water) rafting. You will be kayaking or canoeing down a beautiful river and feel the adrenaline rush when you hear the sound of the next rapid. Walking the crossing between two live volcanoes, often snow covered, you can't but stand in awe of nature as you look at the magnificent colours of the mountains and lakes. A soak in a natural hot pool to soothe any aching muscles while watching the Southern skies, will finish this impressive day.
We sleep at a Marae and listen to the way the Maori People connect life and nature.
On the last day of the tour you will have the option of exploring Rotorua, see the famous geysers and boiling mud pools or visit Pureora rain forests.
This tour is a truly magnificent experience that you will be wanting to tell your grandchildren about.
You will be met at The Central Backpackers in Auckland at a set time, organised by your Agent, and taken to Waitomo, Tokowha's Home Base.
Time to relax and discuss coming events, getting to know the other members of the group, and if you are fit and ready to go, we can do some short walks within the region.
Optional activities of your choice at Waitomo Caves. Late afternoon we make our way to our campsite beside the Wanganui River.
Kayak or canoe this beautiful river, lots of excitement to be had! After changing, we will be on our way to the mountains.
Walk the famous Tongariro Crossing, one of New Zealand's finest walks, with its unique colours and volcanic landscape. This will take about 6 hours to complete.
Climb one of New Zealand's live volcanoes; Mt. Ruapehu, approximate time 5 hrs return.
Relaxed walk through the beautiful forest of Lake Rotopounamu, 2 hours return. Visit Lake Taupo and carry on to the Natural Hot Pools and Marae, Decide day 6.
Options: Explore Rotorua, or tramp through Pureora, one of N.Z.'s finest forests. Then back to Waitomo.
